SPELLING BEE RULES

1.        No congregation may have more than 2 participants to enter each grade group.
2.        The announcer will pronounce the word and use it in a sentence.
3.        Prior to you start spelling a word and if you do not understand the word you must ask the announcer to
say the word again.
4.        The announcer will not repeat a word more than twice.
5.        You will be allowed 10 seconds to spell the word.
6.        Once you start to spell a word you cannot ask for the word to be repeated, ask for a meaning of the
word ore ask for the word to be used in a sentence.
7.        If you start spelling a word and start over again you must say the same letters.  You cannot change any
letters once you start spelling a word.
8.        If you do not spell a word correctly you must leave the competition.  The next speller will receive a
new word and the competition will continue with the same rules in place until we are down to the final two
spellers.  When we are down to the final two spellers the last speller must spell the misspelled word correctly
plus an additional word correctly in order to be declared the winner.  If neither speller spells the misspelled
word correctly, the first speller to have misspelled the word incorrectly receives a new word and the
competition continues with the same rules in place.  On the other hand, if the misspelled word is spelled
correctly, and the additional word is not spelled correctly a winner is not declared.  The speller who
misspelled the word incorrectly firs, receives a new word, and the competition continues until one of the two
remaining spellers is able to spell the word misspelled by the other plus an additional word correctly.

9.        Words sent out are not an inclusive list.  There may be a need to add additional words which no
congregation will have had access to prior to competition.
10.         The announcer will use sensitivity as words are called and spelling takes place among children.
