BIBLE BOWL RULES
Guidelines and Rules

FIRST 16 CONGREGATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED

I.        TEAMS
A.         The teams must consist of three individuals.
B.        There will be two (2) competitive age groups.  Ages 7 – 12, and Ages13 – 18.
C.        Two teams per congregation.
D.        Team members will sit behind each other in linear with eyes facing forward. No other
Seating formats are acceptable.

II.        QUESTIONS
A.         Questions are privately prepared and sealed by a representative from a non-competing
congregation.
B.        New questions will be read for each round (half).  Once a question has been read in a round (half),
it will no longer be used throughout the Bible Bowl.
C.        All questions will come from the following books:
Ages 7 – 12 :  The Entire Books of  1 John, II John and III John
Ages 13 – 18: The Book of Hebrews
D.        Each team is responsible for studying the specified book in its entirety.  The approved bible
version to be used for competition is the KING JAMES VERSION.  Please do not base answer on any
other version.
E.        All questions will be randomly selected by the moderator.
F.        All questions will be multiple choices – A, B, or C.
G.        Each question will be read twice.
H.        Each Team member will have a set of individual cards marked A, B, and C.  Once the question is
read and time is called, the team members will each raise the card they feel is the correct answer.

III.        SCORING/ROUNDS
A.        Each question will have a value of 15 points – five points per team member, per question, per
correct answer.  There is no penalty for the incorrect answers.
Example 1.  One team member answers correctly – 5 points are awarded.
Example 2.  Two team members’ answers correctly – 10 points are awarded.
Example 3.  Three team members’ answers correctly – 15 points are awarded.


B.        BONUS POINTS HAVE A VALUE OF 10 ADDITIONAL POINTS
1.         Bonus points are possible for each question.
2.        To receive bonus points for each question, ALL THREE team members must answer correctly.
3.        If all three answer correctly, the total for the team is 15 points plus the 10 bonus points – total of 25
points.
C.        There will be a time limit of five seconds after each question is read for a response from the teams.

D.        Once the question is read, the timekeeper will say “time”.  At this point, the contestants should
raise the cards with their answers.

IV.         COMPETITION
A.         All competing teams will participate in two halves.
B.        The teams will be given a rest period of five minutes between halves.  During this time, the teams
will be allowed to use alternate members as substitutes.
C.        At the end of the second half, the scores from the first half and second half will be added together
to come up with a final score for each team.
D.        The team with the highest final score will be the champion.
E.        First, second and third place trophies will be awarded.
F.        In the event of a tie, one question will be asked to one of the three team members per team.  The
team will be able to select one person to answer the tiebreaker question.

V.         COACHES AND SCORE  KEEPERS
A.         Each team must have an adult coach.
B.        Each team will be assigned a scorekeeper.
C.        The scorekeeper and coach will sit side by side in front of their respective team.
D.        The scorekeeper and coach will both keep the score of their respective team to ensure that the
scores are added correctly.
E.        If the scorekeeper and coach have a discrepancy with the scoring of a particular question, they
must notify the moderator immediately by saying, “Stop”.  If the moderator has completed the next
question, then the right to protest is lost, and the scorekeeper’s score will serve as the official score.

VI.         CONDUCT
A.         It is hoped that each congregation present will have representation and lots of supporters.
B.        While teams are in competition, supporters are encouraged not to cheer for their teams by
applause.
C.        The following conduct will not be accepted.
1.         Hollering
2.        Whistling
3.        Stomping of feet
4.        Calling out answers
5.        Passing silent signals indicating answers.
D.        If the supporters of a team persist in the unwanted conduct, their team will be penalized two
points.  A warning will be given to the supporters.  Should the behavior persist, the person(s) will be
escorted out.
E.        It is hoped that all teams and their supporters will be honorable and appropriate during and after
the competition.  Should anyone have comments, suggestions, or concerns regarding event
